BCE: GUI Re-stylized
9.10.2026
Greetings admirals,
We have given another look at our first commercial game - BCE, check the changelog below.
We applied our new knowledge and skills we gained during recent development and we present you our new GUI:Changelog
1) We made two themes - dark and light. Toggle-able from the main menu on the run.
2) Buttons are now rounded, better spaced our, better named, hints are easier to read and the water now stays contained in the battlefields.
3) The battlefield is now rendered using Node2D-elements rather than Control-elements. That allowed for more comfortable camera controls and to expand the Miss/Hit/Radar/Island indicators.
4) Most ship pictures were remade to a greater accuracy of real ships. You can now better tell the following ships:
Iowa class battleship, Hipper class cruiser, Flower class corvette, Claud Jones-class destroyer escort (as frigate), Virginia class ironclad, Udaloy class missile destroyer
Many other ships also recieved a little touch-ups for a cleaner look.
5) Added new settings to go with the new features.
6) Re-ordered ships in the ships list into 4 different ways - Ranked by cost, ranked by hull size, categorized into functional groups, or into historical groups. You can chose the prefered ordering from the game settings.
7) Moved personal results and saved settings files into User-specific folder (like AppData on Windows).
8) Reorganized the all ships list (in battle). Now it shows less at once, but its much cleaner.
9) And added a welcoming splash screen.
10) Now using the Godot build-in Content scale instead of manualy scaling all fonts when making user scales GUI.
Game logic nor networking nor AI was not chaged and so the game stays compatible to play with players using the old version. We still have quite few ideas to expand the game, but we will keep them for later. I hope you like this modern look - despite being maybe a little less unique. Ill be happy to see you in battle!
